Building Strong Foundations Through PE: Missy Mouse Class Success Story
by Miss Michelle
At Zoo-phonics International School, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. Our Physical Education (PE) Curriculum has become an important part of our 2–3-year-old Missy Mouse class. Through carefully planned movement activities, games, and play-based exercises, our young learners are making remarkable progress.
One of the main goals of the PE curriculum is to strengthen gross motor skills, which involve the large muscles used for walking, running, jumping, balancing, climbing and coordinating body movements. Since introducing the program, our Missy Mouse students have shown significant improvements in their physical abilities. Children who were once hesitant to participate are soon running, balancing, hopping, and actively engaging with their peers.
But the impact of the curriculum goes beyond physical development. We have observed improvements in focus, listening skills, social interaction, and the ability to follow directions. PE activities encourage children to work together, take turns, build friendships, and develop self-control and independence. Through movements, students also strengthen their cognitive development as they learn patterns, sequencing, and problem-solving skills.
One of the most rewarding moments was seeing the success of our students during the Sports festival. Their confidence, coordination, enthusiasm, and teamwork clearly reflected the positive results of consistent PE experiences.
The importance of movement in early childhood cannot be overstated. It lays the foundation for healthy habits, lifelong learning, and overall development. At Zoo-phonics International School, we are proud to see our Missy Mouse learners growing into active, confident, and happy children through the success of our active classrooms.
